Meet the Host

My name is Sara Evelina, and I teach Mindful Movement Workshops – a practice that is wonderful for the mind-body connection and overall health.

With my background in teaching mindful sports and dance classes, I have created a workshop that uses dance and movement as a meditation and mindfulness practice. Bring the Mindful Movement Workshop to your yearly staff retreat or weekly at your office for an inspirational experience that can motivate true confidence, personal agency, and awareness.

I have dance training from some of the best dance schools in the country, including Alvin Ailey and American Ballet Theatre. Through my continued learning and joy for life, I have found this practice to be the best way to get in contact with and improve personal well-being.

The Mindful Movement Workshop is customizable to fit into any setting, number of people, and time frame- whether a one-time 30-minute breakfast treat, or a weekly series of 2 hours a day.

What is the Mindful

Movement Workshop?

Learning how your thoughts and feelings feel as they fill your body helps you identify when they come up, in a way that only thinking about them will not.

The Mindful Movement Workshop practises these tangible skills for everyday life in an engaging, meditative, and energizing way.

The workshop is a chance to move your body, increasing blood flow and heart rate, and move through your inner world. This is a chance for overall personal development in a way that is rarely accessible in any other space.

Duration:

The Mindful Movement Workshop is customizable to fit into any setting, number of people, and time frame – from a 30-minute breakfast treat to a weekly series of 2 hours a day.

Room/Equipment Needs:

The Mindful Movement Workshop requires a space, preferably a closed room, that can accommodate the movement of attendees - an open floor cleared of chairs or tables.

For larger groups, a microphone and larger space might be relevant. Attendees should wear comfortable clothing.

It’s also possible to do the workshop online.

Overview

This workshop will guide attendees through a meditative, movement based workshop with focus on developing the mind- body connection. Through dance, improvisation, and a series of exercises, the attendees will get a moment to immerse themselves in their own feelings, expression, and leave the thoughts that might otherwise occupy their mind outside. They also get a chance to explore their own feelings at depth, and learn to get to know and work with themselves closer than before.

The skills strengthened in this workshop, either as a one off, or in a series, are useful for people who work in offices, students, or anyone who carries stress in their bodies, whether that is from internal factors like stress and trauma or external factors like repetitive movement. This movement based meditation, where the leader will use their background in dance, improvisation and teaching, is one hour of exploring the mind-body connection and is wonderful for the health of the attendees, from their emotions to their joints.

This workshop will help attendees explore, identify and understand themselves deeper, giving them a chance to gain more control over their internal life. The participation in individual and group exercises pertaining to these important facets on their self can benefit productivity, self confidence, and overall well-being, physically, mentally and emotionally. The health benefits of a break, of exercise, and of mindfulness, gives the participants true enrichment in their day to day life.

Workshop description

The session will begin and end with exercises in mindfulness and expression through improvisation. Throughout the workshop, we will work together on improvisation techniques, where participants will learn how to improvise movements based on their own current headspace and emotions, and practice identifying what is really going on inside: are our feelings physical? Where do we feel them in our body? Do they move with a certain movement quality or speed, or even in space?

Participants will also learn dance technique, to exercise, and get to know parts of our bodies that many don’t notice during their typical day. Additionally, the workshop might use codified technique, or choreography to further deepen awareness of the body. Participants will gain much during the workshops, and get to take home skills to practise on their own.
